Disgusting
First, I will lay you any odds that during a school football or basketball game gestures of affection were exhibited whenever a team member made a great play. These would be public displays of affection on school property. So why weren't the athletes placed in detention? Because the rule is stupid in such situations. In other words, administrators exercise judgment concerning what is and what is not appropriate. Why, then, was judgment not exercised in this case?
Second, how on earth did a person who has absolutely no ability to make judgments of this nature get into a position of authority in the first place? And this is by far the scariest thing about the whole matter. It appears the Superintendent knows all the rules - but can't disitnguish a casual gesature of affection from a hormone-induced lustful activity!
If I were a parent in that jurisdiction, I would be calling for his removal - for incompetence!
..which is about the dumbest statement I've seen in awhile..should be re-written to
say "the Superindendant reflects poor judgement and brings discredit to himself and the school." Just plain stupid...
I can guarrantee you that as a parent I would have had a different reaction to that. I would have yanked my kid out of the school, set up homeschooling for her, and raised all sorts of hell with the school principal, school board, and notified the local media. At least the parents, or someone, must have notified the local media or the national news wouldn't have gotten ahold of this. I heard it on Fox News.
Common sense is becoming as rare as a hen's tooth! :(
Well I can tell you that as a teacher, I would have raised hell about it at the next staff meeting and started a campaign with my students to have the regulation changed.
